The Advanced Medication Champion Pathway is based entirely on local and national guidelines. It is designed to upskill your champion in the management of medications within your service to ensure you are meeting legislative requirements and how to cascade this knowledge to your staff teams.
On completion of the whole pathway, the Champion will receive Level 3 delivering training qualification, an accredited course in coaching and mentoring, a level 3-unit qualification in Support use of Medication and obtain a resource toolkit to support cascade of practice to staff teams.
All champions will complete a level 3-unit qualification in Support Use of Medication in social-care settings, which will include an observation on site. It covers broad types, classifications and forms of medication, as well as safe handling and storage. The unit addresses practical support for use of medication that reflects social care principles and values and includes the need for accurate recording and reporting.

Champions will be expected to act as a lead in Medication Management for your service and to cascade knowledge to staff teams. It is vital that you choose a staff member at a senior level, with authority to supervise staff, and the confidence to pass on knowledge. All champions will have course work to be completed in and out of the classroom.
Please note this course is not intended to create an Medication Administration trainer for your service, and is about creating a lead within your service who can lead medication management, the strategy for the service and cascade awareness and knowledge on medication management.
At the end of the Pathway, the Champion and their Manager will work together in an action planning session to agree on how they can progress following the course and three months later attend a Next Steps session to discuss impact.
